The simple answer is no. But typically, people aren’t allergic to goose and duck down or feathers. Rather, they are allergic to the dust and dust mites that can live in down and feathers if they are not properly cleaned. While most down and feathers inside a pillow are triple washed to get most the dander off, they are never 100% hypoallergenic. However, use of a clean pillow protector over a down and feather pillow can eliminate the dust and dander and make it “hypoallergenic.” For guests with severe allergies, 2 pillow protectors should be used, and pillow protectors should be changed with each change of sheets. Use of a down alternative pillow is recommended if guests with severe allergies are not insistent on having the luxurious feel of natural down and feather pillows.
